Integral Part of an Urban Redevelopment
Gateshead Quays is a large mixed-use development incorporating a hotel and a 12,500-spectator capacity arena and exhibition centre. AD-Studio are the interior designers of the hotel part of the development – working under AHR who are the lead architects for the hotel component.
The development is part of a wider regeneration of the Gateshead /Newcastle waterfront which already has a number of world class public buildings along its embankments. The addition of the arena, conference hall and hotel will make it a world class destination.
Distinct Experiences with Shared Amenities
The hotel is a double branded combo and will offer both Novotel and Ibis rooms to its guests. The large entrance lobby will serve guests to both hotels and will be fully fitted out to match set brand standards. The Novotel and Ibis guests will have their own separate vertical circulation cores to take them up to their rooms from the lobby. Both hotel brands will have their separate breakfast offers which all guests are able to choose between. The hotel will have a total of 327 rooms, of which 187 are under the Novotel brand and 140 under the Ibis brand.
Adaptive Implementation of the Standards
The interior design follows brand book standards for the products that Accor are proposing for the hotel, and the Gateshead project will be one of the first full application of the brand in on a new build project.
The interior design scope includes all the public areas as well as the guestroom floors. The public areas include a large shared entrance hall with restaurant, bar, lounge and on other public floors a compact meeting room suite and a fitness centre. The guestrooms for both the Novotel and the Ibis are being designed with off-site pre-fabricated in mind – and will be manufactured in Poland and then shipped to Gateshead for installation.
