HEART TO A NEW LIFESTYLE HUB

New Hospitality
Tribe is a new type of hotel in the Accor family – a new brand in the design-led affordable luxury sector. Targeting the modern traveller who wants comfort within a one-off destination. The guests know exactly what they want and exactly what they don’t want – which is why Accor describe the brand as an edited hotel experience.

Lifestyle Hotel in a Historic Industrial Complex
AD-Studio were asked to design a Tribe Hotel as the centrepiece of a large new retail and entertainment development in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. The project included the renovation of several period factory buildings as well as new build properties. The Tribe hotel was at the centre of the masterplan and would be one of the first projects to be delivered. Over and above the typical hotel brief this one included many amenities for day visitors. A large outdoor pool complex with an indoor and an outdoor bar and a large rooftop skybar with viewing terrace. Inside the hotel a large conferencing a suite with numerous meeting rooms that could be used for large parties and weddings was provided.

Form Created by of the Context
Being the centre of the masterplan, the hotel took front position directly on one of the planned outdoor event spaces. The hotel would be the perfect place to watch events from and therefore had to cater for large numbers of customers in its ground level bar and terrace, its podium terrace and its rooftop view gallery. The desire lines derived from the site that would connect the various parts of the masterplan ran directly through the centre of the hotel plot. Blocking this route would mean dividing the masterplan into two disconnected halves. After many studies to see how we could redirect the pedestrian flows or make comfortable routes around the hotel, the strongest option was selected for further development – letting the public pass through the hotel. As a result the bridge concept was born.

The Bridge

After many studies to see how we could redirect the pedestrian flows or make comfortable routes around the hotel, the strongest option was selected for further development – letting the public pass through the hotel. As a result the bridge concept was born. The hotel would have two separate podiums with the guestroom block above bridging between them. The idea worked well as the brief for the podium spaces could be easily divided into hotel functions and public (day) functions. One podium would contain the typical hotel front of house spaces, the bar, restaurant, entrance lobby, conferencing, the second podium contained the pool complex, bars, and fitness centre. Guests staying in the hotel could use a second core to access the second podium straight from their guest floors.

The diagram worked very neatly, the hotel looked spectacular, and we were able to retain the connectivity between the various parts of the masterplan.
